Some people claim that egg rolls are not a healthy meal option. Yes, that is true only if you go for deep-fried egg rolls.

So question is, is there any other way too, to cook egg rolls?

Well, the answer is yes there is another way too that is quicker, easier, and most importantly, Healthier!

And that is cooking frozen egg rolls in the air fryer!

Sounds amazing? I know. Air-fried frozen egg rolls are also one of my favorites. I have been air-frying them for years and every time they turn out to be super tasty and crispy.

Preheating the air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 370°F for around 3-4 minutes. Going for this step ensures that the egg rolls will turn out to be crunchy and crispy.

Spraying oil in the basket: Take out the fryer’s basket and brush a little bit of olive oil in the basket. It works well.

Spreading the rolls: Spread the rolls evenly in the bakers in a single layer. Ensure some space in between the rolls so that they can be cooked well.

Air frying the rolls: Air fry the rolls at 370°F for 12  minutes in total. That means after 6 minutes take out the basket, flip the sides, and air fry again for 6 more minutes. 

And then take out the basket and your crunchy egg rolls are ready to be served!

Some Pro tips to consider while air frying egg rolls

  • Always give equal time for air frying to both sides of the rolls. When halfway through the frying process, flip the rolls over.
  • After air frying for 12 minutes, if you still feel like the rolls need more time to get cooked you can air fry them for 1-2 more minutes. After that, they will be cooked well.


I personally give 12 minutes of air frying and they turn out crispy. It depends on the air fryer and the frozen egg roll brand that you are using. So, adjust the time accordingly.

Well, I like having sweet chili sauce with my frozen egg rolls. That is my favorite one and below are some more dip options you can go for:

Preparation time: 10 minutes                         Cooking time: 15 minutes                              Servings: 4


  • ½ cup mushrooms, chopped
  • ½ cup carrots, grated
  • ½ cup zucchini, grated
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 8 egg roll wrappers
  • 1 eggs, whisked
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch


  1. In a bowl, mix carrots with mushrooms, zucchini, green onions and soy
    sauce and stir well.
  2. Arrange egg roll wrappers on a working surface, divide veggie mix on
    each and roll well.
  3. In a bowl, mix cornstarch with egg, whisk well and brush eggs rolls with
    this mix.
  4. Seal edges, place all rolls in your preheated air fryer and cook them at 370
    degrees F for 15 minutes.
  5. Arrange them on a platter and serve them for lunch.

If still, after giving this time you feel that the rolls need more time to get cooked well, you can air fry them again for 2-3 minutes. It depends on your air fryer and egg rolls as well. So adjust it accordingly until your rolls are fully cooked.

Do I need to oil the air fryer basket? 

Well, not necessarily but if you opt for this little step the egg rolls will turn out crunchier. So it is always a good idea to oil the basket either with cooking spray or using an oil brush. You can use any vegetable oil for oiling the fryer’s basket.

Are frozen egg rolls healthy?

Yes, they are healthy meal option if you make them with air frying. Because in air frying very little oil is used in comparison to deep frying. So, air-fried frozen egg rolls are healthy, not deep-fried egg rolls.  

How many calories are there in frozen egg rolls?

One egg roll has around 146 calories in it. This calorie count is for a serving size of 68 grams. Therefore, depending on how many egg rolls you eat, the calorie count will increase accordingly.

Do you need to thaw the egg rolls first? 

No, there is no need to thaw egg rolls before air frying them. You can cook them in the air fryer right after taking them out of the freezer. You can increase the air frying time, in case the egg rolls are extremely frozen. But still, no need to go for defrosting first.
