Tips & Notes
1- For this recipe, I have used canned blueberry fruit fillings. You can also use fresh berries as well.
2- I use the Jus roll pastries sheet; you can use any of your favorite brands.
3- Instead of using cheese, you can also make toppings of powdered sugar and powdered milk for glaze. You can also add lemon juice for extra delight and to complement berries.
4- You can use strawberries, blackberries, and any other fruit fillings as well.
What type of puff pastry is best for this recipe? Store-bought or homemade?
For this recipe, I have used Lucky Leaf Canned Blueberry fruit fillings. You can make fresh paste of blueberries at home as well. Simply take fresh berries, add powdered sugar as per your taste, and add a teaspoon of cornstarch and lemon juice. Mix well and press the berries with the back of the spoon so they turn into paste nicely.
How do I store leftover puff pastries?
Follow the below steps to store leftover pastries:
1- Allow the pastries to cool down before storing them.
2- Put them in an airtight container with a tight-fitting lid. This will help maintain their freshness and prevent them from absorbing unwanted odors in your fridge.
3- You can also stack the puff pastries by placing a sheet of parchment paper between each layer. This will maintain the pastries’ delicate texture and aid in preventing them from clinging to one another.
4- You can store the puff pastries in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you plan to keep them longer, you can also freeze them instead, where the pastries can be stored for up to 1 month.
What is the best way to reheat them?
I use air fryer for reheating them.
1- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (180°C).
2- Place the pastries inside the air fryer basket.
3- Reheat for about 2-3 minutes, or until the pastries are warmed through and crisp on the outside.
How do I achieve a golden-brown and crispy texture on the puff pastries?
To achieve extra crispness, I like to brush the puff pastries with egg wash from the top before placing them in the air fryer. This not only makes them golden brown and crispy but improves their taste as well.
Can I prepare the berry filling in advance and store it in the refrigerator?
Yes, you can make the homemade berry fillings in advance and store them in the refrigerator. But don’t store it for too long, you can store it for 2-3 days in advance.
