Tips & Notes

1- If you are taking flank steak from fridge, then let it rest for half an hour on your kitchen countertop, so it comes at room temperature. Don’t cook frozen flank steak directly in air fryer.

2- Check the internal temperature of steak with the help of a digital meat thermometer. For safe consumption, the internal temperature should be 145 F.

3- For a more flavorful taste, let the flank steak rest for 15 to 20 minutes after marinating it with the seasonings.

4- You can also add brown sugar to the ingredients list for a sweet and spicy flavor.

5- This recipe was made with Cosori Max XL air fryer. Keep an eye on the timer if you’re cooking it for the first time because various air fryers cook at slightly different speeds. You may adjust the duration by a few minutes depending on the performance of your air fryer.

6- Overcooked flank steak can be difficult to chew and becomes hard as well. That’s why I like it medium rare.

Does Flank Steak Get More Tender The Longer You Cook It?

Actually, the more you cook flank steak in an air fryer, the harder it gets. It starts to get more robust and dry as you cook it for a longer period of time, making it harder. I prefer to eat medium rare flank steak as you can taste the juice and it is more flavorful.

How Long Does It Take To Cook A Flank Steak In An Air Fryer?

The cooking time for a flank steak in an air fryer can vary depending on the thickness of the steak and your preferred level of doneness. With preheated air fryer, and at a cooking temperature of 360 F, below are the general timelines for cooking flank steak:

Rare: 6-7 minutes

Medium-rare: 8-10 minutes

Medium: 11-13 minutes

Well-done: 14-16 minutes

Keep in mind that these are close estimates of cooking time and depending on your air fryer the time can vary slightly.

What Temperature Should I Set My Air Fryer To Cook Flank Steak?

Flank steak cooks well at medium temperature in air fryer. Cook at 350 or 360 F. At this temperature, it cooks more evenly and the steak will sear nicely on the outside while the inside will be tender and juicy. Also make sure to preheat your air fryer before placing the flank steak in the basket to achieve the best results.

How Long Should I Rest The Cooked Flank Steak Before Slicing?

Once the flank steak in done in air fryer, let it rest for at least 4-5 minute. This resting period allows the juices to redistribute within the meat, resulting in a more tender, flavorful, and juicy steak. For a thicker steak, you can let it rest for up to 7-8 minutes. After that you can slice it but remember to slice the steak against the grain for maximum tenderness.
