I love cheese and I like to make dishes with cheese content. That’s why air fryer frozen mozzarella sticks are my favorite. They are delicious, crispy, and flavorful. The air fryer’s high heat helps to create a crispy exterior while keeping the cheese inside gooey and melty. They also do have a delightful contrast between the crunchy exterior and the soft, melted cheese inside.
How To Make Frozen Mozzarella Sticks In Air Fryer
Frozen mozzarella sticks are quick to prepare and are ideal to make when you are short of time. For this recipe I am using Farm Rich Breaded mozzarella sticks. They just need to be cooked for 8 minutes, and the air fryer makes your work much simpler because all you need to do is put the mozzarella sticks in the basket and let the air fryer do the rest.
Ingredients
8-10 Frozen Mozzarella sticks
Step-By-Step Guide
Step-1 Start by preheating your air fryer to 390 F.
Step-2 Place the mozzarella sticks in the air fryer basket.
Step-3 Set temperatures at 370 F and cook for 4 minutes. After that shake the basket and cook for another 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is seeping out.
Step-4 Once done take out the mozzarella sticks on a plate and let them rest for 3-4 minutes. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
Tips & Notes
1- For this recipe, there is no need to use any oil. Simply cook them frozen and they will nicely crisp up.
2- Remember, don’t overcrowd your air fryer basket, and shake the basket halfway through for better results.
3- If you don’t want to preheat the air fryer, then increase the cooking time by 1-2 minutes. However, I would recommend preheating as it yields better results.
4- Simply pinch some mozzarella sticks to see if they are cooked. If you feel a fluffy texture and they pinch inward, they are cooked.
What Sauces To Serve With Mozzarella Sticks
You can try any of your favorite sauces with mozzarella sticks. They can be served with a variety of dipping sauces that complement their cheesy, crispy goodness. Below are some of my suggestions:
Ranch dressing: Cool and creamy, ranch dressing provides a tangy contrast to the warm, crispy cheese sticks. It increases the delight of flavor and makes mozzarella sticks extra tasty.
Buffalo sauce: Made with butter, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper, buffalo sauce is a hot and spicy sauce that will heat up and add a spicy kick to mozzarella sticks.
Blue cheese dressing: For those who like robust flavors, blue cheese dressing is a yummy alternative that is both creamy and tangy.
Salsa: Salsa is made up of different sauces and Mexican spices, and another option to spice your taste buds. For a fresh and zesty option, serve your mozzarella sticks with mild or spicy salsa.
Do I Need To Spray Or Coat The Mozzarella Sticks With Oil Before Air Frying?
No, you can cook mozzarella sticks without using any oil. It is also not necessary to spray or coat frozen mozzarella sticks with oil before air frying, as they are typically pre-cooked and already contain some oil. However, there is also no harm in lightly spraying them with cooking spray or brushing them with a small amount of oil. But don’t use too much oil as well.
Can I Cook The Mozzarella Sticks Directly From The Freezer, Or Should I Thaw Them First?
Yes, use mozzarella sticks directly from the freezer. Don’t thaw them before cooking or else they will lack crispiness and may become soggy as well. It’s better to cook them while they are still frozen to prevent the cheese from oozing out during the cooking process. Frozen mozzarella sticks maintain their shape better and result in a crispier exterior with a gooey, melted cheese interior when cooked in an air fryer.
How Do I Store Leftover Air-fried Mozzarella Sticks?
If you have leftover mozzarella sticks, you can store them for later use. Take an airtight container and store leftovers inside it and store it in the refrigerator. They can last from 3-4 days. But before storing them, allow them to cool down first. If you store them hot, they will cool down inside an airtight container, where steam will be trapped and condense, resulting in excess moisture. This excess moisture will make them soggy and affect their texture.
