How To Make Air Fryer Subway Meatball Sub
We used to buy these subs a lot from Subway so that’s why I thought to give it a try with air fryer. And that turned out to be a nice experiment. By using the air fryer, you can enjoy satisfying Subway-style meatball subs that are healthier and quicker to prepare.
It’s an easy and delicious way to recreate the classic sandwich at home, making it a go-to option for a quick and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
Meatballs- Turkey
2 Sub rolls
4 tablespoons tomato sauce (2 for each sub)
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
2 tablespoons shredded mozzarella cheese
Lettuce, Tomatoes, Olives ( for dressing)
Step-By-Step Guide For air fryer meatball sub recipe
Step-1: Take frozen meatballs and arrange them in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
Step-2: Cook meatballs for 8-10 minutes at 360 F.
Step-3: Cut the sub rolls and lightly warm them up in the air fryer.
Step-4: Apply one tablespoon of tomato sauce on each sub with a spoon.
Step-5: Add 3-4 meatballs to each sub sandwich and top them with oregano, lettuce, tomato slices, olives, mozzarella cheese, and tomato sauce.
Step-6: Place the subs carefully in the air fryer and cook at 360F for 2 minutes so the cheese can melt.
Finally, take the subs out in a plate. And enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips & Notes
1-In this recipe, I am using frozen turkey frozen meatballs. You can use the meatballs of your choice.
2- Don’t thaw the meatballs, cook them straight from the fridge.
3- Make sure to check the internal temperature of the meatballs after cooking. It’s safe to consume with an internal temperature of 165 F.
4- Marina sauce also works well with meatball sub, you can either use tomato sauce or marina sauce.
5- I have used frozen turkey meatballs, but you can make fresh meatballs at home as well.
How to reheat meatball sub in the air fryer?
It’s very easy to reheat meatball subs in the air fryer. Just follow the below steps:
1-Prehat your air fryer to 340 F.
2-Place the leftover subs in the air fryer basket.
3- Cook for 3-4 minutes at 320 F.
What type of meat is commonly used for air fryer meatballs Subway Sub? Can alternative meat options be used?
The type of meat commonly used for the meatballs in Subway meatball subs is ground beef. Ground beef is known for its rich flavor and moist texture, which works well in meatball recipes. But there is no hard and fast rule for the type of meat you want to use for meatball subs. You can use ground turkey, ground chicken, and beef.
What seasonings and spices are typically used to flavor the meatballs?
This depends on personal choice. I like to use a blend of ingredients and seasonings when I am making meatballs at home. I like to use garlic, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper, and red pepper flakes.
What is the recommended cooking time and temperature?
It depends on whether you are cooking fresh meatballs or frozen meatballs. For frozen meatballs cooking time is 9-10 minutes at a temperature of 360 F followed by an additional cooking time of 2 minutes with assembled meatballs with dressings and subs. But if you are cooking fresh meatballs, then it would take 12-14 minutes just for meatballs with an additional time of 2-3 minutes with subs.
Can the meatballs be pre-cooked before air frying, or are they cooked together with subs in the air fryer?
Yes, you can precook the meatballs and store them in the freezer for later use. Or you can cook them in the air fryer at the same time while making subs.
