Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients

1 lbs. potatoes

2 tbsp cooking oil

1 tsp black pepper

½ tsp pink salt

½ tsp garlic powder

½ tsp onion powder

½ tsp ginger powder

½ tsp coriander

½ tsp cumin

Equipment

Air Fryer

Tongs

Step-By-Step Process

Step-1: Prep

washing potatoes

Take 1 lb. of small potatoes. Wash them  well so they are clean of any dirt or dust particles. You can also use a brush to scrub them for proper cleaning.

Once washed, dry them before putting them in the air fryer.

Step-2: Preheating

Preheat your air fryer for 5 mins at 400 F.

Step-3: Air Frying

Cook them for 20 minutes at 400°F. They will be like half cooked and this will make it easier to smash later.

After 20 mins, take the potatoes out and transfer them to a sheet pan and use any kitchen utensil such as a cup or mug to smash them into thin circular coins.

Make sure not to over-smash.

Finally, add cooking oil and seasoning and gently toss the potatoes, so they get evenly coated.

Then put the smashed potatoes back in the air fryer and cook them again for another 20 minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy – don’t forget to shake halfway through for even crispiness!

Now you can enjoy your tasty and flavorful smashed potatoes with friends and family!

What type of potatoes are best to use?

There are different types of potatoes that can go with this recipe. You can use Yukon Gold baby potatoes, but keep in mind that they are a little sweet. You can also use red potatoes; they are a good choice as well.

Can you store smashed potatoes?

Yes, you can. A good way to store them is to tightly wrap them with plastic wrap so that they don’t dry out in the refrigerator. That way, you can enjoy them again within 3 days when you want a quick snack or side dish.

How to reheat smashed potatoes?

Simply preheat your air fryer to 400 F and cook them for 5 minutes until crispy.

Don’t microwave them, as that will make them soggy and lose their signature texture.

Tips

Spread them in single even layer, according to the size of your air fryer basket. For bigger baskets, you can usually get everything in a single layer for faster cooking, while smaller ones may require you to shake or stir things up during the final cook.

It’s hard to get them in perfect shape circular shape, so don’t worry if some potatoes get broken during cooking or smashing.

Take smaller size potatoes as they will tender quickly.

You can peel them if you want; it’s up to you. But here, I haven’t peeled them. Their skin also provides a good taste.

You can use the oil of your choice, whether it is olive oil, avocado oil, or any other.
