Step–By–Step Guide
1- Choose brand of onion rings
Air fryer recipes are not too complicated. It’s just a matter of the correct time and temperature and a few simple steps.
So, first, choose your favorite brand of frozen onion rings and store them in fridge. You can cook straight from fridge, no need to thaw.
2- Preheating

Preheat your air fryer to 400 F.
3- Cooking

Once the air fryer is preheated, place 7-8 onion rings in the air fryer basket.
The number of rings you will add depends upon your basket size. Cosori max xl air fryer has a square basket and can accommodate up to 7-8 onion rings easily. Normally I don’t use any oil with frozen recipes. And I will also recommend you not use any oil here.
Set the temperature to 350 F and cook for 5 mins flipping halfway through.
And that’s it, air fried crispy onion rings are ready. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes & Tips
1- I would recommend preheating your air fryer. This is not compulsory, but it works well for even cooking.
2- If you have a preheat function in your air fryer, just press the button and let it preheat. Or else, simply turn the air fryer empty for 3-4 mins.
3- Place the onion rings in single layer with little space between them.
4- I always preheat for frozen food recipes at 400 F. You can do the same, or else 350-375 F also works fine.
5- During cooking, don’t forget to flip the onion rings.
Dipping Sauce
You can try onion rings with any of your favorite dipping sauce. I love to try onion rings with ranch dressing, barbecue sauce and hot sauce.
Some other classical options are ketchup, honey mustard, buffalo sauce and sweet chili sauce.
Reheating & storage
You can store leftovers in the refrigerator for three days in an airtight container or bag.
For reheating, you can use air fryer or microwave oven. I prefer air fryer because it prevents the onion rings from getting soggy.
You can reheat the frozen rings for 2-3 mins in air fryer at 350 F.
Now the question is, once you have reheated onion rings, can you reheat them again for the second time?
Well you can, but try to avoid reheating again and again because the more and more you reheat, it will start to lose taste and crispiness.
What to do if onion rings tastes dry?
It can happen. As there are different brands of onion rings, and each can have a slightly different composition. Other main reason of dried taste is over cooking or cooking at high temperature. So, stick to recipe guidelines and your onion rings wont taste dry.
You can follow any of below to overcome dry taste in onion rings.
Mist with Oil: Although I don’t use oil for onion rings but you can use if they taste dry. Before cooking, lightly mist the onion rings with cooking oil using an oil spray. This will help to add moisture and improve their texture when you heat them up again.
Add Cheese: Cheese is another creative idea, melt some cheese on top of the onion rings. This not only adds moisture but also extra flavor.
Cook onion rings for 4 minutes and then add cheese over them and cook for another 1 minute. Cheddar, mozzarella, or even a creamy cheese sauce can work wonders.
