If you own an air fryer or if you are thinking to purchase an air fryer, then this question might be triggering your mind, how long does an air fryer last?
The actual time an air fryer can last will depend on many factors such as the quality of the air fryer, which brand you choose, how often you use it, and how well you take care of it. But generally, an air fryer can last anywhere from 6 months to 4 years.
In this blog post, I will share the factors in detail that affect the lifespan of air fryers based on my personal experience. I will also share useful tips to improve the life cycle of your air fryer as well. So, let’s begin:
My Personal Journey With An Air Fryer
I purchased my first air fryer two years ago, intrigued by the promises of healthier and faster cooking. But I started to use it after 2-3 months, so you can say it has been around 20 months since I started using it. Since then, it has become an indispensable tool in my kitchen, allowing me to create delicious and crispy dishes without the guilt of deep-frying. But how long did my air fryer last, and what factors contributed to its lifespan? Here’s my experience.
Upon purchasing my first air fryer, Black & Decker AF300, I made sure to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for use and maintenance. I cleaned it regularly, avoided using metal utensils that could scratch the non-stick coating, and didn’t overload the basket. These practices helped extend the life of my air fryer and keep it functioning efficiently.
After one and half years of consistent use, my air fryer still looks like new and has been operating perfectly since then. Its basket is also in good condition, and I am still using it for cooking various foods and it’s working quite well. And I am sure it will last for another two years easily. But that might not the case with every other air fryer. It will depend on its durability, brand, and how you handle it.
Tips That Improve The Lifetime Of Air Fryers
So let’s move towards the tips that improve the lifetime of air fryers. Below are some practical tips to help extend the lifespan of your air fryer:
Read The Manual
Many people don’t familiarize themselves with the manufacturer’s guidelines for the proper use and maintenance of their air fryers. This is a simple tip that can help you make your air frying experience great and will help you for taking care of your air fryer.
Clean Regularly
Initially I also used to clean my air fryer after 2-3 days of multiple uses. But soon I left this practice and started to clean it regularly after every use. It’s good for your health and for the better life of the air fryer as well. After each use, clean the air fryer basket, tray, and interior with mild soap and warm water, using a soft sponge or cloth to avoid damaging the non-stick coating.
Avoid Abrasive Cleaning Tools
Do not use steel wool or harsh scrubbing pads, as they can damage the non-stick coating and the coating will begin to peel.
Don’t Overload The Basket
Overloading the air fryer basket can cause uneven cooking and strain the appliance. Cook food in smaller batches, if necessary, to ensure proper air circulation.
Inspect From Time To Time
Check your air fryer for any signs of wear, damage, or malfunction. Address issues promptly to prevent further damage.
Timely Repairs
If certain components, like the basket or heating element, become damaged or worn out, replace them immediately as leaving them for a long time can affect the overall life of the air fryer. Also, it would be much cheaper to replace a single part rather than a whole air fryer.
Factors Affecting Lifespan Of Air Fryer
Brand And Quality
High-quality air fryers from reputable brands tend to have better construction, materials, and components, which can contribute to a longer lifespan compared to lower-quality alternatives.
Investing in a high-quality air fryer from a reputable brand may have a higher upfront cost, but it can save you money in the long run. A well-built, reliable air fryer is more likely to have a longer lifespan and better performance, reducing the need for frequent replacements or repairs. In essence, it’s better to spend once on a superior appliance than to continually spend on lower-quality alternatives that may not stand the test of time.
Frequency Of Use
Using your air fryer daily or for extended periods may cause it to wear out more quickly than if used occasionally. For example, if you use the air fryer three times per day and someone else uses it three times in three days, the wear and tear on your appliance will be three times greater than the one used each day.
Proper Cleaning & Maintenance
Being an air fryer owner, I would suggest cleaning your air fryer after every use. Regular cleaning and maintenance, such as removing food debris and grease buildup, are crucial for prolonging the life of your air fryer. Neglecting these tasks can lead to reduced performance and a shorter lifespan.
Careful Handling
Kitchen utensils are precious for cooks, so they must be handled with care. Avoid rough handling and ensure regular cleaning. Don’t allow your children to experiment and play with the air fryer, it’s better for air fryer and for your children as well.
